<img src=" (002).png" data-id="null" data-name="20250630083112_HAS-Image (002).png" alt="20250630083112_HAS-Image (002).png" data-url=" (002).png" style="width: 3000px;" class="fr-fic fr-dii" data-uw-rm-alt-original="20250630083112_HAS-Image (002).png" data-uw-rm-alt="QU"><br><strong>Applications will be accepted from: All Persons Interested </strong><strong><br>Division/ Section: HAS - Horticulture & Grounds Maintenance <br></strong><strong>Workdays & Hours: Sunday through Thursday, 6:00am to 2:30pm* (*subject to change)</strong><br><br data-pasted="true"><strong><u>PURPOSE OF DIVISION</u></strong><br>The purpose of the Houston Airports (HAS) Maintenance business unit is to effectively deliver self-performed, and contracted, maintenance services at each of the three HAS airports.<br><strong><u><br>PURPOSE OF THE POSITION</u></strong><br>The purpose of the Semi-Skilled Laborer in the Horticulture& Grounds Maintenance section of the Houston Airport System is to safely and efficiently operate minor equipment to perform a series of manual activities and tasks supporting the goal of "Opening Day Fresh" by prolonging the life and aesthetic beauty of airport's owned assets through effective, efficient, and proactive maintenance.<br><br><strong><em>“Candidates must be able to obtain all security required badge access including Custom Border Patrol access within 6 months from the hire date."</em></strong><br><br><strong><u>The Semi-Skilled Laborer responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:</u></strong><br data-pasted="true"><ul><li>Performs basic maintenance and repairs to structures, facilities and equipment, i.e. housekeeping activities, fabrication and installations, routine cleaning and servicing of vehicles</li><li>Performs minor fence repairs</li><li>Operates power and hand tool equipment</li><li>Operates zero turn mower, push mower, weed eater</li><li>May operate vehicles to and from work locations</li><li>Monitors inventory control</li><li>Trash & debris removal from boulevards, terminals, and other public spaces</li><li>Performs additional miscellaneous assignments as required</li></ul><strong><u>WORKING CONDITIONS</u></strong><br>The position requires extensive, near-continuous physical exertion such as repeated lifting of very heavy objects (more than 80 pounds), deep bending, climbing steps and/or assuming awkward positions. There are routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution. The position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises and minor burns. Requires the ability to make coordinated gross motor movements in response to changing external stimuli within moderately demanding tolerances; or the ability to make coordinated eye/hand movements on a patterned response space within low tolerance demands with no real speed requirements.<strong><u>EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS</u></strong><br data-pasted="true">Ability to read, write, add, subtract, and follow oral and/or basic written instructions as might normally be acquired through 9 to 11 years of formal schooling. No special knowledge of any subject area or technical field is required.<br><br><strong><u>EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS</u></strong><br>Six months of working experience are required.<br><br><strong><u>LICENSE REQUIREMENTS</u></strong><br>Must have a valid Texas Class C driver's license and comply with the City of Houston's policy on driving.<ul><li style="font-style: italic;"><em>The availability to work all shifts, including rotation, weekends and holidays preferred</em></li><li style="font-style: italic;"><em>Any experience with using minor Mowing and Power equipment</em></li><li style="font-style: italic;"><em>2 years of experience utilizing weed eating & zero turn mower operation equipment.</em></li></ul><strong><em>**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6. **</em></strong><em><br></em><strong><u>SELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED</u></strong><br data-pasted="true">The selection process will involve application review and/or interview.
