Now Hiring: Remote Bookkeeper (Contract, Part-Time to Full-Time)
Work from Anywhere | Must be US based (1099)

Sound Advice Bookkeeping is on a mission to bring clarity, structure, and peace of mind to growing businesses through thoughtfully optimized bookkeeping. Since 2006, we've been the financial backbone for small businesses, startups, and nonprofits in over 12 states.

As we grow, we're looking to add an experienced, detail-obsessed Remote Bookkeeper to our fully virtual team of accounting professionals. If you thrive in a flexible, fast-paced environment where quality work and client care come first—and where results matter more than clock-punching—we want to meet you.

About the Role

As a Bookkeeper, you’ll provide remote financial support to a portfolio of assigned clients (typically 18–25 once fully ramped). Reporting to the Managing Partner and working closely with our team, you’ll use your expertise in QuickBooks Online to ensure timely, clean books and accurate reporting. This is a 1099 contract role requiring approximately 100–140 hours/month after ramp-up (minimum 20–25 hours/week).

We use a Results-Oriented Work (ROW) approach: no micromanagement, but you must be available for client Zooms and team meetings during standard business hours (MST).

Key Responsibilities

You’ll own and manage all aspects of full-charge bookkeeping for your clients, including:
  • Chart of Accounts review, design, and alignment with business operations
  • Import historical bank/credit card transactions (YTD or specified range)
  • Reconcile prior periods (bank, credit card, loans, etc.)
  • Identify and clear duplicate or uncategorized transactions
  • Review outstanding AR/AP balances for accuracy

  • Prepare vendor payments (Client must authorize/send)
  • Record and apply customer payments (Accounts Receivable / AR)
  • Enter or generate customer invoices
  • Generate and send invoices to customers
  • Track open AR / collections status
  • Record recurring journal entries (e.g., loan payments, depreciation, fixed asset tracking)
  • Collection of W9s and 1099 vendor tracking for year-end 1099 processing*
  • Record reimbursable expenses based on approved reports or receipts
  • Sales tax reporting and filing (monthly, quarterly, or annually)
  • Generate monthly management reports: Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, AR, AP
  • Meet monthly or quarterly to review management reports
  • Maintain digital file organization of supporting docs (e.g., receipts, statements)
