This is a responsibly advanced level skilled, technical, and supervisory work in installing, operating, maintaining, and repairing water, stormwater, sewer pumping, and control equipment, installations, and facilities in the City’s Public Works Department. Work includes primarily field duties. The emphasis of work is on pumping stations and related facilities. Work involves the performance of and the direction of crews in performing all phases of the operation, care, and repair of water, stormwater, sewer, and control equipment.<br>Employees in this classification ensure safe working conditions, maintain water flow, and test the water supply. The emphasis of work is the monitoring and adjusting pressures and flows through the operation of manual and electrical controls, maintenance of equipment and facilities, and minor or emergency repairs, generally in the control facility or individual pumping station. This position reports to the Pump Shop Mechanic I and Pump Shop Supervisor.<ul style="margin-bottom: 3.0pt;"><li>Supervises and participates in the work of crews involved in the installation, construction, inspection, maintenance, repair, overhaul, cleaning, and general care of all water, stormwater, and sewer electrical pumping equipment, stations, control facilities, and related equipment and facilities.<li>Trains and evaluates the work of skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled workers<li>Investigates indications and complaints of water, stormwater, and sewer line stoppages, leaks, and breaks; pump station and system malfunctions and failures; and other interruptions of service<li>Transports pumps, motors, other equipment, and crews<li>Conducts routine maintenance, including, but not limited to, lubricating, cleaning, and adjusting all types of pumping-related equipment<li>Cleans, polishes, paints, maintains, and repairs pumping stations and related facilities<li>Establishes and enforces safety standards and safe operating procedures<li>Prepares, maintains, and evaluates employee and equipment operations and performance records and reports<li>May operate heavy equipment, including hydraulic cranes and forklifts<li>Performs related work as directed<li>The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.<li>Plans, supervises, and participates in the work of crews involved in the operation, monitoring, installation, construction, inspection, maintenance, repair, overall cleaning, and general care of all utility systems and flow control devices. <li>Responds to emergencies on a 24-hour basis.<li>Establishes and enforces safety standards and safe operating procedures.<li>Prepares, maintains, and evaluates employee and equipment operations, performance records, and reports.<li>Completes research, participates in training, and maintains contacts to remain informed on current developments, programs, regulations, and procedures in assignments; incorporates such information into training.<li>Works in conjunction with design, inspection, technical personnel, regulatory, and other agencies to ensure compliance with required laws, regulations, standards, guidelines, and procedures.<li>Inventories, evaluates and makes detailed recommendations for modifying or purchasing necessary parts, supplies, materials, services, and equipment and maintains stock as directed.<li>Assists in other major Public Works projects outside of typical areas of responsibility.<li>Substitutes for supervisor during their absence.<li>Locate utilities when required.<li>Maintain pump stations water storage tanks and instruct others in the operation and maintenance procedures.<li>Performs chemical tests involving chlorine residuals water quality testing sampling, conducts leak surveys, and trains others in correct methods of leak surveying.<li>Read and understand area maps; locate lines; instruct others in using maps and line location procedures for other utilities and agencies.<li>Prepares or receives various forms, reports, correspondence, manuals, reference materials, or other documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards, or retains as appropriate.<li>Communicates with supervisor, employees, other departments, the general public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review the status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.<li>Monitors work site to ensure safe working procedures are followed.<li>Operates manual, electrical, and computerized controls of various pumping stations from a central control console or individual stations<li>Provides adequate pressure and flow by starting, stopping, and regulating pumps at various locations<li>Assesses the need for maintenance and repair of various components of the systems and facilities; calls in emergency repair crews when appropriate<li>Conducts regular inspections of equipment and structures and reports on conditions and performance<li>Conducts routine maintenance, including, but not limited to, lubricating, cleaning, and adjusting all types of pumping-related equipment<li>Cleans and maintains vehicle and related facilities; performs minor or emergency repairs<li>Prepares and maintains detailed records and reports<li>Performs related work as required</ul><ul style="margin-bottom: 3.0pt;"><li>Must possess a High School Diploma, General Equivalency Diploma, or a recognized equivalent certificate <li>Must obtain and maintain a Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License with air brake endorsements within 12 months to maintain employment with the City of Miami Beach<li>Must obtain a FWPCOA Level “3” Utilities Maintenance Certification within 12 months  <li>Must obtain and maintain an FDEP Class 3 Water Distribution License or a minimum Florida Class "C" WTPO license or higher within 18 months<li>Must obtain NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800 Certifications within six months<li>Must obtain Intermediate MOT within 12 months <li>Shift work includes nights, weekends, and holidays<li>Must be available for overtime, which includes nights, weekends, and holidays<li>This position is a trainee position.
