Short-Form Video Strategist (Instagram Reels)

About the Job

Vroom Media Group is hiring a Short-Form Video Strategist to build our founder's personal brand on Instagram Reels, from concept to hook to final edit.

Vroom Media Group is a direct-response marketing and lead generation agency. We run Meta ad campaigns for financial advisors and insurance agents, and a client acquisition service for coaches, consultants, and agency owners. Our founder, Allan Khazak, is a CPA turned agency CEO and the author of The Growth Ceiling.

We're making a heavy, sustained push on Instagram Reels. We need someone who has repeatedly made Reels break out of the follower base and reach cold audiences, and who can turn a founder's expertise into content people actually stop scrolling for. This is not a YouTube role and not a "post and hope" role. You'll own the Reels engine: strategy, scripting support, editing, publishing, and learning from the numbers every week.

Ideal Candidate

Strategy

  • Build and own a Reels content strategy for a B2B founder brand: content pillars, recurring formats, posting cadence, and a 30-day rolling calendar.
  • Study what is working on Instagram right now (formats, hooks, audio, pacing, trends) and adapt it to a business audience without making it cringe.
  • Turn Allan's expertise in marketing, client acquisition, and business growth into ideas that hook a cold viewer in the first 1 to 2 seconds.

Scripting and production

  • Write hooks, outlines, and talking points, and coach Allan on delivery, energy, and on-camera framing.
  • Plan efficient batch-filming sessions so one session produces 2 to 4 weeks of content.
  • Pull clips from longer content (podcasts, webinars, calls) when available.

Editing

  • Edit every Reel for retention: tight cuts, pattern interrupts, captions, B-roll, zooms, sound design, and on-screen text.
  • Deliver native 9:16 edits optimized for Instagram, with strong cover frames and captions that drive saves, shares, and DMs.
  • Produce 4 to 7 finished Reels per week once the system is running.

Publishing and optimization

  • Publish Reels, write captions and calls to action, and manage posting times.
  • Track performance weekly (views, 3-second hold rate, average watch time, shares, saves, follows, profile visits) and report what you'll change next.
  • Test hooks, formats, and lengths deliberately, then double down on winners.

Job Requirements

You have a track record on Instagram Reels specifically, and you can show it.

Required experience

  • 2+ years creating and editing short-form video, with Instagram Reels as your primary platform.
  • A portfolio of Reels you personally strategized and edited, including multiple Reels that reached 100,000+ views, ideally on accounts under 50,000 followers.
  • Proof you grew an account, not just made one hit: before-and-after follower counts, reach, or engagement from Instagram Insights.
  • Experience making talking-head or founder-led content perform, not only trend, lifestyle, or entertainment content.
  • Fluency in a professional editor such as Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or CapCut Pro, plus caption and motion-graphics tools.

Skills we'll test for

  • Hooks: you can explain why a hook works and write ten options for one idea.
  • Retention editing: pacing, cuts, and visual changes that keep viewers past the 3-second and 50% marks.
  • Platform knowledge: you understand how Instagram distributes Reels (sends, saves, watch time, non-follower reach) and how that has changed recently.
  • Analytics: you read Instagram Insights and turn the numbers into concrete next steps.
  • Taste: you know the difference between content that feels native to Instagram and content that feels like an ad.
  • Speed and reliability: you hit a weekly publishing schedule without being chased.

Nice to have

  • Experience growing founder, coach, consultant, or agency brands in the B2B or business-education space.
  • Experience repurposing Reels for LinkedIn video, where our ideal clients spend their working hours.
  • On-camera direction experience: you've helped non-creators look natural and confident.
  • Basic filming and lighting skills for in-person or remote shoots.
  • Familiarity with turning organic winners into Meta ad creative.
  • Based in or near the Greater Toronto Area, or working in Eastern Time.

This role is not a fit if

  • Your experience is mainly long-form YouTube, or you mostly re-cut horizontal video into vertical.
  • Your portfolio is templated edits with no strategy behind them.
  • You can't share real numbers from accounts you've worked on.
  • You need a detailed brief for every video. We want someone who brings ideas, not just executes them.

7. HOW DO YOU ORGANIZE FILES, LINKS, AND TABS ON YOUR COMPUTER?

Just like your schedule, how you track files and other information is very important. After all, everything is digital!...

9. HOW DO YOU PREPARE FOR A MEETING AND PREPARE A MEETING? WHAT DO YOU SEE HAPPENING DURING THE MEETING?

Just as communication is essential when working remotely, so is organization. Because you won't have those opportunities in the elevator or a casual conversation in the lunchroom, you should take advantage of the little time you have in a video or phone conference...

10. HOW DO YOU USE TECHNOLOGY ON A DAILY BASIS, IN YOUR WORK AND FOR YOUR PLEASURE?
