Head of Social - Square

Other Jobs To Apply

As Head of Social for Square, you’ll sit within Brand Strategy & Marketing and own social as a channel: its strategy, audience, content calendar, community, and performance. This is an individual contributor role with no internal team; you’ll be the primary point of contact for social, partnering with the Brand Lead and your creative counterpart to connect Square’s positioning to the work that gets published. Your primary focus will be organic and owned content, with responsibility for advancing brand perception goals and partnering with paid teams so organic and paid reinforce each other.
You Will

Set the social strategy for Square. Define what social is for, what it does that other channels cannot, and what it is deliberately not for. Connect that strategy to Square’s positioning in partnership with the Brand Lead.

Define the audience and measures of success. Identify who Square is talking to on social, what they care about, and where they spend time. Make that understanding the foundation of the strategy, and establish the channel’s key success metric and the rationale behind it.

Build and own the social content calendar. Plan for major brand campaigns and moments alongside a consistent, always-on content program, showing how both support Square’s brand perception goals.

Bring cross-team activity into social with intent. Work with partnerships, the Brand Lead, and other teams to identify what belongs on social and how it should show up. Be the primary point of contact for requests and make decisions about channel fit.

Partner with paid social and media teams. Ensure organic and paid activity reinforce each other as part of a connected approach.

Shape the role of creators and influencers. Identify where they can credibly support Square’s social strategy, audience, and campaign goals. Partner with Partnerships, Brand, Demand Generation, Legal, and agencies on recommendations, vetting, briefing, disclosure guidance, and performance readouts.

Take content from idea to publication. Work with your creative counterpart to develop and publish content, balancing strategic intent, quality, and the pace social demands.

Own community management. Define how Square shows up in replies, comments, and direct messages, and maintain a consistent brand voice in partnership with creative.

Turn social listening into action. Monitor conversations about the brand, campaigns, product launches, category, competitors, and emerging issues. Translate those signals into clear readouts, recommendations, and escalation notes for partner teams.

Apply judgment to trends and timely opportunities. Know what is moving on social, assess its relevance to Square’s positioning, and move quickly on opportunities that fit while passing on those that do not.

Support Communications-led crisis and issues management. Monitor inbound activity and sentiment shifts, recommend channel responses, route urgent issues, and help protect owned channels through Sprinklr workflows or moderation guidance.

Be accountable for channel performance. Track progress against the agreed success metric and Square’s brand perception goals, alongside content consistency and quality, campaign integration, community health, and the effectiveness of cross-team partnerships.

You Have

8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years experience; or equivalent experience.

Exceptional communication skills: you make strategy clear and concise, and write confidently in a brand’s voice.

Deep understanding of your audience, including the references, formats, and conversations that matter to them.

Strong judgment about trends and their relevance to brand positioning, with the ability to distinguish a meaningful opportunity from something the brand should pass on.

The ability to move quickly, make sound decisions, and publish work without unnecessary process.

Strength in both strategy and execution: you can develop the channel strategy and publish the post.

Strong partnership skills and experience working with brand leads, creative partners, partnerships, and paid teams without direct reporting authority.

A track record of building and running organic, owned social channels, with clear examples of what you grew and why it worked.

Pay Transparency:
Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. Common Interview Questions And Answers

1. HOW DO YOU PLAN YOUR DAY?

This is what this question poses: When do you focus and start working seriously? What are the hours you work optimally? Are you a night owl? A morning bird? Remote teams can be made up of people working on different shifts and around the world, so you won't necessarily be stuck in the 9-5 schedule if it's not for you...

2. HOW DO YOU USE THE DIFFERENT COMMUNICATION TOOLS IN DIFFERENT SITUATIONS?

When you're working on a remote team, there's no way to chat in the hallway between meetings or catch up on the latest project during an office carpool. Therefore, virtual communication will be absolutely essential to get your work done...

3. WHAT IS "WORKING REMOTE" REALLY FOR YOU?

Many people want to work remotely because of the flexibility it allows. You can work anywhere and at any time of the day...

4. WHAT DO YOU NEED IN YOUR PHYSICAL WORKSPACE TO SUCCEED IN YOUR WORK?

With this question, companies are looking to see what equipment they may need to provide you with and to verify how aware you are of what remote working could mean for you physically and logistically...

5. HOW DO YOU PROCESS INFORMATION?

Several years ago, I was working in a team to plan a big event. My supervisor made us all work as a team before the big day. One of our activities has been to find out how each of us processes information...

6. HOW DO YOU MANAGE THE CALENDAR AND THE PROGRAM? WHICH APPLICATIONS / SYSTEM DO YOU USE?

Or you may receive even more specific questions, such as: What's on your calendar? Do you plan blocks of time to do certain types of work? Do you have an open calendar that everyone can see?...

7. HOW DO YOU ORGANIZE FILES, LINKS, AND TABS ON YOUR COMPUTER?

Just like your schedule, how you track files and other information is very important. After all, everything is digital!...

8. HOW TO PRIORITIZE WORK?

The day I watched Marie Forleo's film separating the important from the urgent, my life changed. Not all remote jobs start fast, but most of them are...

9. HOW DO YOU PREPARE FOR A MEETING AND PREPARE A MEETING? WHAT DO YOU SEE HAPPENING DURING THE MEETING?

Just as communication is essential when working remotely, so is organization. Because you won't have those opportunities in the elevator or a casual conversation in the lunchroom, you should take advantage of the little time you have in a video or phone conference...

10. HOW DO YOU USE TECHNOLOGY ON A DAILY BASIS, IN YOUR WORK AND FOR YOUR PLEASURE?

This is a great question because it shows your comfort level with technology, which is very important for a remote worker because you will be working with technology over time...
