About the position

We are seeking experienced Credit Underwriters to join a dynamic team supporting a major mortgage program. This is a fully remote position offering flexibility and competitive pay. As a Credit Underwriter, you will issue credit decisions based on documented borrower profiles while adhering to program guidelines and client requirements. This role is project-based, meaning work volume may vary depending on client needs. While efforts will be made to provide consistent assignments, there may be periods of reduced or no work.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite residential mortgage loans in accordance with Conventional guidelines.
  • Analyze credit reports, income, assets, and appraisals to assess risk and compliance.
  • Utilize AUS engines such as Loan Prospector, Desktop Underwriter, AssetWise, and other LOS systems.
  • Identify potential fraud exposure and ensure adherence to federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Meet daily production and quality targets while clearing conditions within audit standards.
  • Collaborate with team members and communicate effectively in a remote environment.
  • Ability to work overtime and weekends when needed.

Requirements

  • 2–4+ years of recent frontline manual underwriting experience with Conventional, FHA, VA, Jumbo, Non-QM, and QM products.
  • Strong knowledge of Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac guidelines, HVCC, RESPA, and compliance regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and underwriting systems (DU, LP).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, metrics-driven environment.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must have a quiet, productive workspace and hard-wired internet connection.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate degree or equivalent industry experience preferred.
